In the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s the rapid emergence of technologies that allowed businesses to conduct business globally with more ease, speed, and accuracy spawned the era of “globalization.” Leaders found that the skills they had developed were inadequate to meet the demands of globalization, and organizations began to confront and try to solve the challenge of finding and developing leaders who could operate successfully in the global context. During the 1980s and 1990s I was conducting research with colleagues on expatriate productivity, and through a variety of experiences became acquainted with the struggles that organizations were having in solving this challenge in their leadership cadres. So, I joined other scholars who were early entrants into this new field as well and tried to better understand the dynamics of global leadership in order to assist organizations in their leadership development efforts. Below are publications that address the nature of the context of globalization and the challenges it causes for leadership development in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations:<\/span><\/p>\n
