Justin Pohl in UTC Student Development offered me a challenging proposal: take a week away from UTC University Relations and join several faculty members to facilitate a LeaderShape Institute at Camp Lookout. Sleep in a cabin, grab food from the chow line, and help a group of UTC students figure out who they are, where they want to go, and how to get there from here.
Students receive awards at Chemistry banquet
The UTC Department of Chemistry hosted its twenty-sixth annual awards banquet to recognize the outstanding contributions of its students in the areas of service, research, and scholarship.

A fountain is bubbling and new tables and chairs invite visitors to hang out at the Student Government Association Student Park, newly dedicated in honor of Dr. Roger Brown, chancellor emeritus, and his late wife, Dr. Carolyn Thompson.

If you’ve had problems with body image, you’re not alone. Kjerstin Gruys experienced the same feelings, which led her to live without mirrors for a year and to write a memoir about the experience.
Black male student initiative boosts retention and graduation rates
A highly structured program focused on more than success in the classroom is increasing the number of black male graduates at UTC.
Student Support Services (SSS) launched the University’s first-ever black male initiative, Black Males on Campus (BMOCS) in fall 2010 to promote the retention of black male students so that they can succeed and graduate from UTC. Not only does this program focus on success in the classroom, it also addresses social, cultural, emotional, personal and financial issues.
UTC TV Studio renovated
Renovation in the Metro Annex features a new UTC TV Studio with a teaching lab and video editing bays. It’s where students produce “Mocs News.” Watch the video below to hear UTC student Bria Craig describe the new space.

UTC Student Health Services partners with Memorial to equip new location in Maclellan
Student Health Services (SHS) has reopened on campus in Maclellan Gym, with five examination rooms and a triage/lab room. SHS is outfitted with new equipment in UTC blue, thanks to a donation from Memorial Health Systems.
