The UTC Master Chorale will be directed by Dr. Kevin Ford, Director of Choral Activities, on Friday, June 19, at 7:30 p.m.\u00a0 The concert will be held in the Second Presbyterian Church (700 Pine St., Chattanooga).\u00a0 The accompanist for the concert is David Friberg.\u00a0 This event is open to the public and free of charge.<\/p>\n
The Master Chorale program focuses on recent Northern European choral compositions and folk songs.\u00a0 Composers represented are Arvo P\u00e4rt, Vytautas Mi\u0161kinis, Egil Hovland, Henryk G\u00f3recki, Zden\u011bk Luk\u00e1\u0161, L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Halmos, and the feature work is Joseph Rheinberger\u2019s wonderful setting of the \u201cStabat Mater\u201d.\u00a0 Folk song settings of James Erb, Steven Paulus, Katherine Davis and Philip Wilby will close the concert.<\/p>\n
Ford will be assisted in the concert by three graduate students who will each conduct a piece: Varanda Bell, Maria Mathis, and Kim Pringle.<\/p>\n
The UTC Master Chorale includes members of the Chattanooga Bach Choir, Chattanooga Choral Arts, the Chattanooga Symphony Chorus and many area church choirs along with UTC and Cadek Conservatory faculty and students. The group rehearses for six weeks each summer and then gives a public performance as the culminating event.<\/p>\n
The UTC Master Chorale began in the summer term of 2004 with the idea to combine UTC undergraduate and graduate students with active non-university singers in the Chattanooga area community. This chorus provides an ensemble for the teachers enrolled in the Masters in Music degree program at UTC who often find it difficult to participate in an ensemble during the fall and spring terms. It also gives Chattanooga area singers an advanced ensemble to perform with in the summer months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
