Connor Professor of American Literature, began a Summer course in 1992 focused on American Literature, with the hopes of creating an environment where UTC students and members of the community could join in discussion of the works presented by our faculty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Department head and UC Foundation Professor of Spanish, Lynn Purkey, is excited to be a part of the Take Five lecture series. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe topic this year is multicultural America and, as a Spanich professor, I immediately thought of presenting a work that would highlight the contributions of Latino writers.\u201d Purkey continued, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Julia \u00c1lvarez\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How the Garc\u00eda Girls Lost Their Accents <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is fascinating novel.
