UTC’s Honors College is hosting a viewing party for the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>TEDxChattanooga event in the Derthick Auditorium; the event is SOLD OUT but you can catch it all in Derthick as it\u2019s happening! TEDxChattanooga will officially begin at 10:30 am<\/span><\/span> and continue\u2014with breaks\u2014until roughly 6 pm<\/span><\/span>. Light refreshments will be served during the day; come out and see what kinds of ideas worth spreading are right here in Chattanooga!<\/em><\/p>\n

What do a Biohacker, high school senior, comedian, and poet have in common? This engaging selection of individuals are sharing their innovative ideas at the 2016 TEDxChattanooga. With the theme, \u201cThis might sound crazy but…\u201d the local TEDxTalk is focused on celebrating \u201cexamples of crazy ideas in Chattanooga — and the world — that change our society.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Saturday, February 27 will feature a variety of inspiring talks in UTC\u2019s Roland W. Hayes Concert Hall. An After Party will conclude the stimulating day at the Tennessee Aquarium River Journey. Tickets for the event are already sold out, but don\u2019t fear. Even if you missed your chance for a ticket, you can still experience the Chattanooga based talk as they <\/span>stream the event live on their website<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asami Nakano<\/span><\/a>, Japan Outreach Coordinator for UTC\u2019s Asia Program, is fluent in three languages as well as the arts of origami, calligraphy, e-tegami, and kamishibai. In her Talk, Nakano will explain how breaking cultural boundaries and adopting the Japanese traditions of Furoshiki and mottainai would reduce our community\u2019s waste and promote environmental friendly approaches to our everyday lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Self-proclaimed biosafety evangelist Cole Montalvo studied biochemistry at UTC. Montalvo is currently participating in the Personal Genome Project. Launched in 2005 at Harvard Medical School, the project has collected genome and health data from over 100,000 participants and counting to create an open resource for scientists to tap-into. His talk will emphasize the importance of these open sources and the biological advantages biohackers bring to modern science and research.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tracy Carish and her husband dropped successful careers and left their busy lives to take their three young daughters on a life changing journey around the world. Their 18 month adventure through 24 countries changed how they understood life and happiness. Carisch will explain the lessons they learned along the way, and how they are translating those discoveries into their lives as they settle back into home.<\/span><\/p>\n
