Arms and the Man February 23-27<\/p><\/div>\n

We\u2019re marching the chocolate-carrying soldier back to the stage with UTC\u2019s production of <\/span>Arms and the Man <\/span><\/i>Feb. 23-27.<\/span><\/p>\n

UTC Theatre Company presents<\/span> Arms and the Man<\/span><\/i> in the Dorothy Hackett Ward Theatre, Fine Arts Center. The show will run February 23-27 at 7:30 P.M. with an additional 2 P.M. matinee on Saturday, February 27. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Center box office by phone at (423) 425-4269 or in person. Tickets are also available to purchase <\/span>online here<\/span><\/a>. <\/b>Tickets are $12 for General Admission and $10 for students and seniors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Arms and the Man<\/span><\/i>, written by Nobel Laureate and Academy Award Winner George Bernard Shaw, treats the audience to a hilarious look at war, romance, and upward mobility. First performed in 1894, this classic play is set in motion when a young woman invites an exhausted soldier to seek refuge in her bedroom, an act of rebellion and flirtation. Through this chance encounter between \u201cenemies,\u201d Shaw releases a satiric romp that invites the audience to take a new look at love, bravery, and conflict. Where is the real battlefield? In our hearts, in our minds, or in our wallets?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShaw\u2019s play continues to entertain through his smartly constructed comedy,\u201d says director <\/span>Gaye Jeffers<\/span><\/a>. \u00a0\u201cEach of the characters \u2013 the soldier who carries chocolates instead of bullets, the pompous officer who enjoys the color of his uniform more than what it stands for, the smart servant who fights to step up to the next social rung, and the beautiful young woman who enjoys making an entrance — creates a wonderfully imaginative Bulgaria that resonates with us today,\u201d states Jeffers.<\/span><\/p>\n
