{"id":14824,"date":"2016-02-16T08:41:50","date_gmt":"2016-02-16T13:41:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/?p=14824"},"modified":"2016-03-03T14:23:32","modified_gmt":"2016-03-03T19:23:32","slug":"womens-history-month-features-hip-hop-and-gender","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2016\/02\/womens-history-month-features-hip-hop-and-gender\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s History Month features hip-hop and gender"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hip-hop and gender are at the center\u00a0of Dr. Regina Bradley\u2019s talk, \u201c\u2018SpottieOttie that Was Shawty\u2019: Pleasure Politics in the Hip Hop South,\u201d on <\/span><b>Thursday, March 3, Multicultural Center.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bradley\u2019s talk will follow a <\/span><b>5:30 P.M. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">showing of the film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beyond Beats and Rhymes, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a study of masculinity, violence, sexism, and homophobia within hip-hop music and culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFor our Women\u2019s History Month keynoter, our goal was to find a speaker whose topic crosses disciplinary boundaries and sparks student interest. \u00a0We have found such a speaker in Dr. Regina Bradley and are most enthusiastic about her visit to UTC,\u201d explained <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/english\/profiles\/faculty\/xgs922.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Marcia Noe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Professor and Coordinator, Women\u2019s Studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Bradley is an assistant professor of African American literature at Armstrong University in Savannah, GA where she specializes in post-Civil Rights African American literature, pop culture, race, and sound. In addition to her chapter in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Cultural Impact of Kanye West, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bradley has articles published in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">south: a scholarly journal, ADA, Journal of Ethnic American Literature,<\/span><\/i> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Current Musicology.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>Interested in other events on campus celebrating Women&#8217;s History Month?
