Prof at UTC and Ayubu Daniel and Isaya Benard, helping with block making.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/college-engineering-computer-science\/profiles\/civil-chemical-general-engineering\/civil-faculty\/jzt169.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mbakisya Onyango<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Assistant Professor, Civil and Chemical Engineering, is currently working with <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mustnet.ac.tz\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mbeya University of Science and Technology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (MUST) in Tanzania after receiving a fellowship through the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iie.org\/Programs\/Carnegie-African-Diaspora-Fellows-Program#.V0XFr_krJdg\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Alongside MUST faculty and students, Onyango is researching the use of rice husks in construction materials for housing and other structures in Tanzania.<\/p>\n<p>Natural soil (mud) blocks are widely used in the Mbeya region of Tanzania. The blocks are made from a mixture of water and soil, pressed into the block formations, and then either air\/sun dried or burnt into blocks.
