Just Before Dawn, Alan Shuptrine, 21×26, watercolor<\/p><\/div>\n

This Monday, SCEA <\/a>(Southeast Center for Education in the Arts) is hosting a pop-up exhibit and lecture\u00a0to explore The Serpentine Chain<\/em>, an interdisciplinary collaboration between nationally acclaimed artist Alan Shuptrine and NY Times best selling author Sharyn McCrumb that celebrates the people and traditions of Appalachia.\u00a0The lecture series is free and open to the public and invites UTC faculty, staff, students, and members from the surrounding community to take part\u00a0on September 12th from 7:00pm-8:30pm in the UC Auditorium.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Our student advisory group SAIL (Students for Arts and Interdisciplinary Learning)\u00a0 is launching next week as part of celebrating National Arts in Education Week on campus and will be there helping out during the Monday lecture,” said Laurie Melnik<\/a>,\u00a0Executive Director of SCEA.<\/span><\/p>\n

When attendees enter the UC Auditorium Lobby, they will have an opportunity to respond to the prompt \u201cI come from a place\u2026\u201d through written words and\/or drawing images.<\/span><\/p>\n

“\u2018I come from a place\u2026\u2019 will be used in upcoming SCEA programs including our ongoing work with extending the The Serpentine Chain Collection<\/em> in PreK-12 schools across the state of Tennessee. During Monday\u2019s lecture, SAIL students will assemble a piece on a portable gallery wall that attendees will be able to view at they leave the UC Auditorium. We hope this will generate excitement about SAIL and our ongoing work with The Serpentine Chain<\/em>,” Melnik said.<\/span><\/p>\n
