The program was endorsed by the Organization of American Kodaly Educators in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are the only Kodaly program in the southeast United States with OAKE endorsement,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n<p>The Kodaly approach is named after Hungarian composer and teacher Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967) who was instrumental in establishing systematic music education in his native country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKodaly-certified teachers are leaders in the field of music and education, sharing what they have learned with other music teachers and advancing to greater career opportunities,\u201d said Harris.<\/p>\n<p>Though all three levels of training and certification are offered during the three week workshop, participants can spread out their training over as many summers as they wish.<\/p>\n<p>To become Kodaly certified a teacher has to complete 225 hours of training.\u00a0 The teacher must demonstrate an ability to use this training in a music classroom through a video-recorded lesson, finish a folk song collection of 250 songs, and perform as a soloist and conductor on the concluding concert of the Level III (and final) course.\u00a0 The ending result is for the teacher to be able to provide for their students the best music instruction possible, Harris said.<\/p>\n<p>Participants must register with the University and pay a $450 workshop fee in addition to University fees.\u00a0 A limited number of scholarships are available through the University, however, participants can get funding for the courses through the Foundation for the Kodaly Institute, International Kodaly Society, and the Hungarian Scholarship Board.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014By Tia Tappan, UTC intern<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Music instructors throughout the US and Canada spent part of their summer vacation at the University\u2019s Kodaly Institute, working to improve the way they teach as well as earning a certification that could advance their careers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"more-link-wrap\"><span><a class=\"more-link button text\" href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2009\/08\/kodaly-institute-at-utc\/\">Continue Reading <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","_ef_editorial_meta_date_first-draft-date":"","_ef_editorial_meta_paragraph_assignment":"","_ef_editorial_meta_checkbox_needs-photo":"","_ef_editorial_meta_number_word-count":"","_ef_editorial_meta_checkbox_slider":"","_ef_editorial_meta_checkbox_featurette":"","_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[61],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-1635","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-college-of-arts-sciences","7":"entry","8":"has-post-thumbnail"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
