The American Psychological Association\u2019s (APA) I Am Psyched! Is a multimedia pop-up exhibit featuring the history and contemporary contributions of women of color in psychology.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe brought the APA’s\u00a0I Am Psyched! exhibit to UTC to help highlight the long-ignored contributions of women of color to the psychological sciences. Our history, as in other disciplines, is dominated by western white males to the exclusion of other perspectives,\u201d explains Department Head of Psychology, Brian O\u2019Leary.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the hidden figures of psychology is a wonderful way to start the academic year, says Nicky Ozbek, professor of psychology.<\/p>\n

\u201cBringing this exhibit to UTC allows us to stop and thank all of the people, in our personal and collective past, who paved the way for us to work together to make our communities better for all,\u201d explains Ozbek.<\/p>\n

Join a roundtable discussion with psychology alumni to learn about their careers in the Chattanooga area. Learn about the psychologist whose work was used un the 1954 Supreme Court decision that defined the segregation of schools on the basis of race unconstitutional. Travel through time with a visual history of women of color in the field of psychology. And so much more.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to educating our majors and members of the UTC and Chattanooga communities to this disparity, we hope to inspire women, and particularly women of color, to consider careers in Psychology which require masters and PhD degrees and provide them some tools to get there,\u201d O\u2019Leary adds.<\/p>\n
