{"id":19013,"date":"2017-10-05T11:43:52","date_gmt":"2017-10-05T15:43:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/?p=19013"},"modified":"2017-10-17T16:23:35","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T20:23:35","slug":"mocforward-methods-incorporate-understand-diversity-inclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2017\/10\/mocforward-methods-incorporate-understand-diversity-inclusion\/","title":{"rendered":"MOCForward: Methods to incorporate and understand Diversity &amp; Inclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Embracing diversity and inclusion is one of the four top goals in UTC\u2019s Strategic Plan and, to achieve that objective, a new, all-day conference has been scheduled this month.<\/p>\n<p>Moving Our Campus (MOC) Forward: An Inclusive Excellence Conference will be held in the University Center on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The conference\u2019s theme is \u201cExploring Inclusion as a Path to Excellence.\u201d It is free and open to everyone, including the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMOC Forward will foster awareness and appreciation of diversity issues through exploration of exemplary practice, contemporary theory, groundbreaking research, thought leadership and strategy development,\u201d says Bryan Samuel, director of Equity and Diversity for UTC and co-chair of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will offer sessions that focus on self-exploration, identity development, campus diversity, and inclusion in the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMOC Forward will explore how interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives augments the curricular experience and affords every student the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a global society,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>More than 20 speakers, including UTC faculty, staff and students, will give presentations at the conference, addressing subjects that include ways to interact with students from other countries, dealing with different ethnicities, women\u2019s issues and cultural differences.
