What: UTC Chamber Singers and Chattanooga Singers present \u201cNorthern Lights\u201d<\/b><\/h4>\n

Where:<\/b> Roland Hayes Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center<\/span><\/p>\n

Admission:<\/b> Free and open to the public<\/span><\/p>\n

Details: <\/b>\u201cNorthern Lights,\u201d a concert featuring music from the Baltic States will spotlight music by Estonian composer Veljo Tormis, Latvian composers Rihards Dubras, P\u0113teris Vasks, Andrejs Jansons, Norwegian composers Kim Andr\u00e9 Arnesen, Trond Kverno, Knut Nystedt, Finnish composers Edvard Grieg, Harri Wessman, Einojuhani Rautavaara, and Swedish composers Carl-Bertil Agnestig, Jan Sandstr\u00f6m, and Gustaf Nordqvist.<\/span><\/p>\n

Student soloists include Jessica Adams, Kristen Vradenburgh, Taylor Hamilton, Brandon Middlebrooks, Jacob Hoverman, Morgan Ferrel and will include student conductors Kristen Vradenburgh and Taylor Hamilton. Both choruses are directed by Kevin Ford and accompanied by David Friberg.<\/span><\/p>\n

A second, underlying theme for the concert is that of peace. This part of the world has known occupation and freedom that came through peaceful means of group singing. Come and enjoy a peaceful evening of great music.<\/span><\/p>\n

UTC’s Faculty Jazz Quintet<\/p><\/div>\n

What: Faculty Jazz Quintet Concert<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Where:<\/strong> Roland Hayes Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center<\/p>\n

Details:\u00a0<\/strong>With Clint Schmitt on Saxophone,\u00a0Stephen Brannen\u00a0 on the electric guitar, Eric Hanson on bass, Monte Coulter on drums and David Walters on piano, this concert is sure to be a hit.<\/p>\n

The Symphony Orchestra is made up of students from UTC, Chattanooga State and musicians from the Chattanooga community.<\/p><\/div>\n

What: UTC Symphony Orchestra presents Tchaikovsky and More<\/b><\/h4>\n

When: <\/b>3\u00a0p.m., Sunday, Nov. 12<\/span><\/p>\n

Where:<\/b> Roland Hayes Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center<\/span><\/p>\n

Admission: <\/b>Free and open to the public<\/span><\/p>\n

Details:<\/b> Conducted by Sandy Morris, this 65-member college\/community orchestra includes music majors and non-majors from UTC and Chattanooga State, UTC music faculty members, area music educators and other talented amateur and professional musicians from the region. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The concert features Peter Tchaikovsky\u2019s <\/span>Symphony No. 2,<\/span><\/i> in which he deftly incorporated several Ukrainian folk tunes.The work was very successful from its first performance because of Tchaikovsky\u2019s exciting development of the themes, and it won critical acclaim among Russia\u2019s nationalistic composers known as \u201cThe Five.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also on the program is the overture to Giuseppe Verdi\u2019s <\/span>Nabucco<\/span><\/i>, his first widely acclaimed opera chronicles the exile of the Jews from their homeland by Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II. A hauntingly beautiful work entitled <\/span>Longing for Your Return<\/span><\/i> by Steven Amundson, professor of music theory and conducting and conductor of orchestras at St. Olaf College, provides a respite between these powerful works. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What: UTC Jazz Band, Marching Mocs and Alumni Jazz Band present \u201cMocWave\u201d<\/b><\/h4>\n

When: <\/b>7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16<\/span><\/p>\n

Where: <\/b>University Center Auditorium<\/span><\/p>\n

Admission: <\/b>Free and open to the public<\/span><\/p>\n

Details: <\/b>The Marching Mocs will perform highlights from the 2017 marching season. The program will feature African drummer Maxwell Omwenga and vocalist Caelan Paul. Guest conductor will be Professor Emeritus Anthony D\u2019Andrea. The Jazz Band is conducted by Dr. Erika Schafer; Marching Mocs director is Dr. Craig Davis and Assistant Director is Dr. Schafer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Monte Coulter conducts the UTC Percussion Ensemble<\/p><\/div>\n

What: 21st Annual \u201cBeat Hunger\u201d Concert<\/b><\/h4>\n

When: <\/b>7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20<\/span><\/p>\n

Where: <\/b>Roland Hayes Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center<\/span><\/p>\n

Admission:<\/b> 2 non-perishable food items or $2 check donation to the Community Kitchen<\/span><\/p>\n

Details:<\/b> Every year, UTC\u2019s Percussion Ensemble kick-off the Chattanooga holiday giving season with \u201cBeat Hunger,\u201d a concert to benefit the Community Kitchen. For more than two decades, this concert has a been a tradition in downtown Chattanooga, attended by UTC students and faculty, as well as a number of non-campus Chattanooga residents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chattanooga\u2019s own bucket band, \u201cFunkabuckets,\u201d will perform \u00a0in the lobby as concert-goers gather for \u201cBeat Hunger.\u201d The program includes standard works from the percussion literature and some more recent transcriptions borrowed from other areas. Program pieces range from six centuries of music and include all manner of unusual instruments, as well as the usual snare drums, timpani, mallet instruments and cymbals. All performers are UTC percussion students and Dr. Coulter\u2019s students.<\/span><\/p>\n

UTC Women’s Chorale<\/p><\/div>\n

What: \u201cMortals and Angels\u201d concert featuring the Women\u2019s Chorale and Men\u2019s Chorus<\/b><\/h4>\n

Where:<\/b> Roland Hayes Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center<\/span><\/p>\n

Admission:<\/b> Free and open to the public<\/span><\/p>\n

Details:<\/b> This concert is programmed with the theme \u201cMortals and Angels,\u201d with the Men\u2019s Chorus performing songs that address the human perspectives of the season and the Women\u2019s Chorale performing seasonal songs about angels.<\/span><\/p>\n
