It\u2019s been all over the news lately: Crypto-currency, a virtual money that is currently seeing huge spikes in value. Bitcoin, Etherium and zcoin are dominating newsfeeds, but what are they exactly?<\/p>\n

On Friday, the College of Engineering and Computer Science invites the public to learn more about the status of crypto-currency and gain insight into the future of e-commerce.<\/p>\n

Fluent in information assurance, Dr. Richard Brooks, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Clemson University, will discuss virtual online currency and explore topics such as its current status and social impact, privacy concerns, the currency\u2019s probable evolution and how its data structures can be applied to the security of other applications.<\/p>\n

His lecture examines how a stable online currency was created and how crypto-currencies are being used in the shadow\u00a0economy\u2014with its black market transactions and undeclared work.\u00a0<\/strong>Brooks focuses on the perceived privacy of these digital transactions and if the current measures in place are enough to maintain privacy.<\/p>\n
