#UTCWHM<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

With events spanning from documentary screenings to art therapy, this year\u2019s Women\u2019s History Month celebrates the impact of women on today\u2019s culture. <\/span><\/p>\n

Bringing students, their different viewpoints and different messages together was the driving force behind planning for the month\u2019s events.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe tried to choose events that represent a variety of identities and provide students with experiential learning opportunities,\u201d explains <\/span>Lauren Ouwerkerk<\/span><\/a>, assistant director for the <\/span>Center for Women and Gender Equity.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cOur programs are partnerships with a variety of student organizations and offices across campus to show that Women\u2019s History should not be relegated to just the Center for Women and Gender Equity,\u201d Ouwerkerk says.<\/span><\/p>\n

Featured speaker, Danielle Hurd, visits campus on Monday, March 5. Born and raised in Birmingham Al., she brings a unique perspective of living in the Southeast as a queer woman of color. Hurd now lives in Washington D.C. where she works as the leadership development coordinator for URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHer background in activism will hopefully inspire our students to become more involved in creating change on campus,\u201d Ouwerkerk says.<\/span><\/p>\n
