At yesterday\u2019s Women of Distinction of Greater Chattanooga annual award luncheon, UTC Chief of Staff Terry Denniston (center) was one of ten women honored. She is joined at the event by, left to right, UTC Lecturer of Chemistry and Physics Dominique Belanger, Chancellor Steven Angle, Denniston, Executive Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration Richard Brown, College of Health Education and Professional Studies Dean and 2015 Woman of Distinction Valerie Rutledge, and 2014 Woman of Distinction Debbie Ingram, Department Head and UC Foundation Professor of Physical Therapy.<\/p><\/div>\n

For more than 30 years, Terry Denniston has been a guiding force for progress and improvement at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.<\/p>\n

Considering what she has done for UTC and the community, it is fitting that Denniston, chief of staff, was named a 2018 Woman of Distinction of Greater Chattanooga at the group\u2019s annual luncheon today at the Chattanooga Convention Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no aspect of UTC that hasn\u2019t benefited from Terry\u2019s influence,\u201d says Valerie Rutledge, dean of the College of Health, Education and Professional Studies, who was in attendance in honor of Denniston, along with some 25 UTC colleagues.<\/p>\n

Rutledge adds, \u201cShe is involved in academics, she supports student affairs, she\u2019s very heavily engaged with athletics\u2014wherever you see Terry you know that things are getting the right work done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Denniston joined UTC as director of alumni affairs in 1986, serving more than 50,000 Chattanooga alumni and creating a culture that welcomed Mocs to reconnect with their university. A former dancer herself, she also volunteered to coach the Sugar Mocs, UTC\u2019s dance team, taking them to a nationally-ranked status.<\/p>\n

Honorees chosen as Women of Distinction are recognized because they devote their time to improve the quality of life for others and are influencers to the community, encouraging Chattanooga women to make positive differences in the region.<\/p>\n
