The Chattanooga Smart Community Collaborative, a research-oriented group that includes UTC, is a finalist for a national \u201csmart city\u201d award.<\/p>\n

The International Data Corp., better known as IDC, has selected Chattanooga as one of the three finalists in \u201cEducation\u201d category in IDC\u2019s 2019 Smart Cities North America Awards.<\/p>\n

IDC focuses on marketing, advising and creating events for information technology, telecommunications and consumer technology.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese cities, called Smart Cities, are embracing new technologies and services \u2014 like mobile payments, autonomous cars, and public Wi-Fi \u2014 to attract visitors, new businesses and to make life better for residents,\u201d the IDC website says.<\/p>\n

The Smart Community Collaborative includes UTC\u2019s effort Center for Urban Informatics and Progress research group, EPB, Erlanger Hospital, the city and Hamilton County governments and such organizations as Co.Lab and the Enterprise Center.<\/p>\n

The other nominees in the Education category are the City of Los Angeles Neighborhood Arts Profile and Arizona State University\u2019s Mobile App.<\/p>\n

Out of more than 65 submissions, IDC selected finalists in 12 categories: Administration, Civic Engagement, Digital Engagement and Accessibility, Economic Development, Education, Public Safety, Smart Buildings, Smart Water,\u00a0Sustainable Infrastructure, Transportation, Transportation Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Land Use.<\/p>\n
