It is intended for and free of charge to Title IX compliance officials, administrators in student conduct and student affairs, general counsel, prevention coordinators, chiefs of police and lead security officers with any UT campus and is being made available to their counterparts at any Tennessee university up to the event capacity of 150.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for signing up is Friday, May 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEducation and training regarding sexual violence prevention and response are crucial to ensuring that universities are complying with Title IX and the Violence Against Women Act, and we at UTC are excited to partner with our colleagues at UT Knoxville to bring renowned Title IX expert Peter Lake to our campus,\u201d said UTC Title IX Coordinator Stephanie Rowland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of UTC\u2019s mission includes service and outreach to our community, and on May 20\u00a0we will be engaged in fulfilling that part of our mission by providing this learning opportunity at no cost to our University of Tennessee partners as well as colleagues from other universities and colleges throughout the state. We share a commitment to serving our students, and we at UTC are pleased to help facilitate access to this exceptional program of training.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lake is a professor of law and director of the Center for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy at Stetson University in Florida. He has been referred to or quoted in numerous national news outlets on matters of higher education law and policy, and he has produced an extensive collection of articles for scholarly publications. He is the author of five books, most recently <em>The Four Corners of Title IX Regulatory Compliance: A Primer for American Colleges and Universities<\/em>, published in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He also is a highly sought-after speaker and futurist, particularly in higher education law and policy. He has served as a presenter or keynote speaker at hundreds of international, national, regional and local meetings. Lake has served on boards of multiple entities, including the board of editors of the\u00a0<em>Journal of College and University Law<\/em>, the Center for Academic Integrity and the review board for the U.S. Department of Education&#8217;s Higher Education Center.<\/p>\n<p>Participants in the May workshop jointly produced by UTC and UT Knoxville will include Title IX coordinators, campus law enforcement investigators and officials responsible for sexual assault prevention and education efforts on their campuses. They will attend a day-long series of training and workshop sessions on Monday, May 20, with Lake the keynote speaker and facilitator of a half-day compliance workshop for UT staff on Tuesday, May 21.<\/p>\n<p>The original presentation of this annual event in 2015 was hosted at Tennessee State University in Nashville.
