They can be purchased at the UTC Box Office, by phone at (423) 425-4269 or by visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/theatre\/\">https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/theatre\/<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>UTC Theatre Co. continues its Outside the Box\u201d programming with <em>Art\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0by Yasmina Reza, a Tony-award winning play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis play is about intellectual and aesthetic arguments, but it is also an ingenious collection of laughs,\u201d says director Steve Ray. \u201cSome of the humor comes from intellectual arguments, some from cynicism, and some from someone accidentally getting punched in the face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He notes that \u201cthis play was originally written in French. Sight gags are even funnier when they are contrasted with the philosophical arguments these characters are having.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Art<\/em>, a friendship between characters Marc and Serge comes into question when Marc disagrees with Serge\u2019s purchase of an expensive painting. Their friend Yvan provides a sounding board and comic relief, if not the most sophisticated taste in art. Ideas and friendships are tested.<\/p>\n<p>The Theatre Co.\u2019s usual venue, the UTC Fine Arts Center, is being renovated, which gives the company the chance to try new things, Ray says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are using this as an opportunity to explore alternate venues and alternate practices,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things we are experimenting with in\u00a0<em>Art<\/em>\u00a0is having a second cast.\u00a0This provides more students opportunities to hone their acting skills. The alternate cast will serve as understudies to the primary cast, learning invaluable skills.\u00a0They will also perform in the Saturday matinee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The main cast is<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Mark Elich, Falcian Page and Owen Vice.
