{"id":34634,"date":"2020-12-28T09:44:30","date_gmt":"2020-12-28T14:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/?p=34634"},"modified":"2020-12-28T09:44:30","modified_gmt":"2020-12-28T14:44:30","slug":"utc-chosen-as-one-of-the-best-for-disabled-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2020\/12\/utc-chosen-as-one-of-the-best-for-disabled-students\/","title":{"rendered":"UTC chosen as one of the best for disabled students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is ranked among the best schools in the country for its programs and accommodations to help disabled students.<\/p>\n<p>The website collegeconsensus.com ranked UTC as No. 22 out of the Top 50 schools in the nation that, as the website said, \u201ctake accessibility seriously when considering the needs of students with disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University of Tennessee Chattanooga has extensive offerings for students with disabilities through their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/disability-resource-center\/index.php\">Disability Resource Center<\/a>. The tagline of their services is &#8216;Building a Culture of Access at UTC,&#8217; and that is exactly what you can expect,\u201d Collegeconsensus said. \u201cTheir mission is very much in service of creating awareness and inclusion on campus about access and diversity. They offer\u00a0a disability ambassador training\u00a0for the campus community to create a culture of advocacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the last five years, the website notes, \u201cmore buildings have been made accessible and more faculty members have joined the effort to make the campus safe and open for everyone. Some of the many resources that are available for students with disabilities include counseling services and a myriad of accommodations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the DRC, we work diligently to move our campus towards a culture of access. We hope to get to a place where \u00a0inclusion and access are considered at the design phase and less accommodations are needed.
