Two performances on campus this week will feature the music of Robert Nathaniel Dett. The performances are part of the 125th Anniversary and Celebration of the distinguished American composer.<\/p>\n
Today,Thursday afternoon, October 11, Charles Pettaway, Jr., will present a lecture\/performance on American piano music. In addition to the In the Bottoms Suite for Piano by Dett, Pettaway will perform music of Gottschalk and Gershwin. The fifty-minute presentation begins at 1:40 p.m., in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall.<\/p>\n
On Friday evening, October 12, University Chamber Singers, the Women\u2019s Chorale and Men\u2019s Chorus will be joined by the Chattanooga Choral Society, and the Wendell P. Whalum Community Chorus of Atlanta, in a festival of choral music by Dett. The program begins at 8 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall.<\/p>\n
The celebration project, presented by the Chattanooga Choral Society in cooperation with the Department of Music and the Chattanooga African American Museum, is sponsored in part by grants from Tennessee Arts Commission, the Southern Arts Federations, the Lyndhurst Foundation, and Holmberg Professorship in American Music.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
