Department of Music<\/a> production will feature both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the opera workshop class. Admittance to the class is by audition only, and serves to provide singers with performance opportunities as well as to teach movement and acting for opera, and to allow the study of opera repertoire and literature that students will encounter throughout their careers.<\/p>\nThe evening will include scenes from The Magic Flute<\/span> and the complete 2nd act of The Marriage of Figaro<\/span>. Maestro Jooyong Ahn will conduct the UTC Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n“For all of you opera fans, remember that the majority of the big name stars that you hear of today all had their own humble beginnings, just as the students involved in this production,” said Ulen. Come out and support these young singers \u2013 maybe someday you will be able to say of someone at the Met, ‘I saw them when they were just getting started…”<\/p>\n

Beat Hunger Concert<\/h2>\n
On Monday, November 19, the UTC Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dr. Monte Coulter, presents “Beat Hunger 07,\u201d at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center at Vine and Palmetto Streets. The annual “Beat Hunger” concert has become a Chattanooga tradition, and marks the beginning of the Christmas giving season. All proceeds go directly to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.<\/p>\n
The UTC Percussion Ensemble has earned a reputation through the Southeast as a premier college percussion ensemble, performing works on standard percussion instruments, as well as more exotic pitched and non-pitched sources.<\/p>\n
\u201c”Beat Hunger” regularly draws hundreds of people and collects donations at this time of the year. Admission to the concert is 2 non-perishable food items, or a two dollar check donation to the community kitchen,\u201d said Coulter. \u201cCash donations cannot be accepted.\u201d<\/p>\n
The program is suitable for children, and percussionists of all ages.<\/p>\n
Saxophone Quartet performance<\/h2>\n
