The Sharrock family got more than a new home when the bus rolled away on \u201cExtreme Home Makeover.\u201d The family also received college scholarships to UTC.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a dream come true,\u201d Michael Sharrock said. \u201cI\u2019ve still got all of my college books. When I was honest with myself, I thought I would never make it back to college.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was something I didn\u2019t ask for and didn\u2019t expect,\u201d he continued. \u201cI believe it\u2019s going to be very fulfilling for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michael and Cindy Sharrock received scholarships for Michael to finish his biology degree and nine-year-old son, Patrick, to attend UTC. The family were presented certificates by Chancellor Dr. Roger Brown, his wife, Dr. Carolyn Thompson, Terry Denniston, UTC chief of staff, and Scrappy, UTC\u2019s mascot.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always wanted him to finish his education, and now he can,\u201d Shirley Sharrock, Michael\u2019s mother, said.<\/p>\n

James McArthur, Michael\u2019s brother, said \u201cI knew when they announced that UTC was furthering his education that Mom was going to jump for joy. I started crying. It\u2019s just unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of us started crying,\u201d Shirley Sharrock continued.<\/p>\n

A crew from \u201cExtreme Home Makeover\u201d and thousands of area volunteers demolished the family\u2019s 50-year-old house in Rossville, Georgia and replaced it with a new Irish cottage style home. The main purpose of the project was to build a safe house for Patrick, who has a form of brittle bone disease and has had many injuries occur at home.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a great feeling to know that this community stepped up to take care of their scholarships and mortgage,\u201d Brady McConnell, executive producer for \u201cExtreme Home Makeover,\u201d said. \u201cYou people did everything that you could possibly do.\u201d<\/p>\n
