It doesn\u2019t even seem fair,\u201d said Craven, who graduated from UTC in 1999 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in electrical engineering.<\/p>\n<p>For both awards, Craven was praised for his work to increase the transmission efficiency and reliability of the utility\u2019s electrical grid while also enhancing the grid\u2019s cybersecurity protection. His developments can be used by power utilities and other transmission services worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>A transmission and power supply engineer at TVA for 10 years, Craven is the utility\u2019s first winner of Federal Engineer of the Year since 1982.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStephen\u2019s innovative approach and leadership not only help secure our electric grid from cyber-threats but also gives our region a competitive advantage as we generate electricity to power the region\u2019s growing economy\u2014while keeping TVA\u2019s power rates among the lowest in the nation,\u201d said Aaron Melda, TVA senior vice president for transmission and power supply.<\/p>\n<p>The TVA award is named after O.J. \u201cIke\u201d Zeringue, a former TVA president, chief operating officer and chief nuclear officer.<\/p>\n<p>Craven\u2019s father and grandfather both worked at TVA and\u2014while he worked for private companies before joining the utility\u2014those jobs didn\u2019t give him the same \u201cfulfillment I get from working for a company that truly benefits the public,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt the same way when I was working full-time at UTC,\u201d Craven said. \u201cHaving a job with a public service mission is truly worthwhile.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Stephen Craven, a UTC alum, former full-time electrical engineering faculty member and current adjunct professor has received the 2023 O.J.
