{"id":496,"date":"2008-01-09T16:20:55","date_gmt":"2008-01-09T21:20:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/Administration\/UniversityRelations\/news\/2008\/01\/09\/see-the-2008-art-juried-student-exhibition\/"},"modified":"2008-01-09T16:20:55","modified_gmt":"2008-01-09T21:20:55","slug":"see-the-2008-art-juried-student-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2008\/01\/see-the-2008-art-juried-student-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"See the 2008 Art Juried Student Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>My Life in Transit: A Visual Inventory<\/em> by Bekka Reese was judged Best of Show (1st Place Overall) in the 2008 UTC Department of Art Juried Student Exhibition.\u00a0 Reese entered a book and installation.\u00a0 She is a 4th year BFA Graphic Design major.<\/p>\n<p>Both Sharon Farrelly and Jessica Lowe earned the Award of Outstanding Recognition (2nd place overall).\u00a0 Farrelly, a fourth year student pursuing the Bachelor of Fine Arts with a studio concentration in 3D, entered the installation <em>Chaos to Order<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 Lowe, also a fourth year student pursuing the Bachelor of Fine Arts with a studio concentration in 3D , entered the installation <em>Pillow Fight in the Gallery<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 A total of nine awards were presented and 31 artists were invited to participate in the 2008 show.\u00a0 See the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/univrel\/news\/files\/2008ArtExhibit.php\">entire list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Juror Catherine C. (CeCe) Cole, artist and educator based in Louisiana, selected participants from over 120 submissions for this 13th edition of the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am impressed by the dexterity evident in each of the ceramic pieces, the audaciously sophisticated sculptural objects and installations, the urbane proficiency of the graphic design presentations, and the masterful vitality of the paintings and drawings,\u201d Cole said.<\/p>\n<p>In her remarks, Cole observed that Bekka Reese presented a work that is an \u201cobsessively mundane, yet simple and insightful catalogue of things and stuff. Images of the contents of her book bag and the collection of shoes in her closet, for example, resonate with the honesty of her investigation into her own identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cole said both Sharon Farrelly\u2019s <em>Chaos to Order<\/em> and Jessica Lowe\u2019s <em>Pillow Fight in the Gallery<\/em> address sociopolitical issues. \u201cThey implicate their audience with participatory installations.
