I gained very specific knowledge that I didn\u2019t get with my master\u2019s degree\u2014everything from auditing school buildings for safety to going into classrooms to assess and evaluate teachers,\u201d said Callahan, originally from Montreal, Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like I really got my money\u2019s worth at UTC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Callahan preferred working in independent schools but had hit a professional wall in her career when she chose UTC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had had a lot of experience in independent schools but always got bypassed for promotions. They said they didn\u2019t see me in senior leadership,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Like most great leaders, she didn\u2019t let naysayers rule her destiny.<\/p>\n<p>Choosing the licensure track in the UTC program was also a leap of faith, she said.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because while Callahan aimed to stay in the private sector, UTC\u2019s program aligns with Tennessee\u2019s public education system.
