<\/strong>For two University employees, work doesn\u2019t end when they leave campus at the end of the day. Dr. Deborah Arfken and Jayne Holder continued to volunteer in the community and were recently honored for their service.<\/p>\n

Dr. Deborah Arfken, UTC University Planning Coordinator and Professor of Political Science, Public Administration and Nonprofit Management, was named a 2011 Women of Distinction by the American Lung Association in Tennessee. This award honors women who set themselves apart through their professional achievements, and civic, cultural, philanthropic, and human service, and environmental commitments to the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very special award. I\u2019m honored and humbled,\u201d Arfken said.<\/p>\n

Arfken has worked at the University for 31 years. At UTC, Arfken heads the implementation of the university\u2019s strategic plan. She also teaches a class in the master\u2019s of nonprofit management program.<\/p>\n

\u201cUTC is a wonderful place to be. There are constantly new opportunities and challenges. We\u2019re always striving to do things in a better way,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In addition to her duties at UTC, Arfken also volunteers at the Partnerships for Families, Children, and Adults, the Rotary Club, Women\u2019s Leadership Institute, and Girl\u2019s Inc.<\/p>\n

Jayne Holder, Director of Alumni Affairs, was inducted into the Ronald McDonald House Charities Volunteer Hall of Fame. The award is given to those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their service. Holder has been volunteering with the organization for 17 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful organization that has been a home away from home for many families,\u201d she said. Holder volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Chattanooga, located near T.C. Thompson\u2019s Children Hospital. The Ronald McDonald House provides housing for families of patients of the nearby hospital. \u201cIt\u2019s an organization that holds a special place in my heart,\u201d Holder said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
