{"id":53197,"date":"2023-10-04T07:38:15","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T11:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/?p=53197"},"modified":"2023-10-06T07:54:46","modified_gmt":"2023-10-06T11:54:46","slug":"beautiful-faces-documentary-looks-at-local-plastic-surgeon-and-his-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2023\/10\/beautiful-faces-documentary-looks-at-local-plastic-surgeon-and-his-patients\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Beautiful Faces\u2019 documentary looks at local plastic surgeon and his patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe title=\"Beautiful Faces Official Trailer\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/786032158?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" style=\"max-width: 100%;\"style=\"max-width: 100%;\"frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Beth Wilson was born with a rare condition called Pfeiffer syndrome which caused certain bones in her skull to fuse within the womb.<\/p>\n<p>Greer Cofield was kicked in the face by a horse, crushing the bones.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Bennett was born with a cleft lip and palate and had the dream of being a singer.<\/p>\n<p>In his documentary \u201cBeautiful Faces,\u201d Dagan Beckett, a 2012 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, explores the journeys these three, their parents and local surgeon Dr. Larry Sargent took through multiple plastic surgeries to address their medical problems.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 3, the Chattanooga premiere of \u201cBeautiful Faces\u201d will take place in the UTC Fine Arts Center&#8217;s Roland Hayes Concert Hall. It won an Emmy award in the Topical Documentary category from the Nashville\/Midsouth chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. It is now available on Amazon Prime and Peacock video streaming services.<\/p>\n<p>The making of \u201cBeautiful Faces\u201d began while Beckett was shooting \u201cSongbirds.\u201d He\u2019d met Sargent several years earlier while shooting video for another project and learned, \u201cOK, he\u2019s a big deal, and he does some pretty insane surgeries and stuff like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After deciding Sargent would make a good subject for his new documentary, Beckett reached out to the surgeon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI took it upon myself to go meet with him and essentially said, \u2018I\u2019d like to do a film including you. I don\u2019t know what it\u2019s about. When she arrived at Erlanger Hospital on its Lifeforce helicopter, emergency room doctors immediately said, \u201cCall Dr. Sargent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like Beth, her story in \u201cBeautiful Faces\u201d concentrates on the emotions of her father, Greg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is more focused on the relationship between her and her dad and the dad\u2019s grief: My only job was to protect my daughter, and I failed at doing that. So it really focuses on him coming to terms with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Josh Bennett wanted to be a singer but was born with a cleft lip and palate, \u201cand if you know anything about having a hole in the roof and trying to be a singer, it ain\u2019t easy,\u201d Beckett said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe dealt with a lot of bullying as a kid, a lot of issues of self-esteem growing up and trying to overcome those,\u201d Beckett said.<\/p>\n<p>With the help of Sargent\u2019s work, Bennett is now in Los Angeles, working as an actor and singer.<\/p>\n<p>Sargent\u2019s patients may receive a great deal of attention in the film, said \u201cBeautiful Faces\u201d producer Irving Berner, but the skills of Sargent are highlighted through the amazing results he achieved for Beth, Greer and Josh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re watching the film and what he does, and you\u2019re sitting there going, \u2018How does anybody ever learn how to do this?\u2019\u201d Berner said. \u201cIt is beyond
