Some students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga face problems with having enough good food to eat.<\/p>\n

The Beat Hunger concert is intended to help.<\/p>\n

Featuring the UTC Percussion Ensemble and set for Monday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, the concert is a food drive for Scrappy\u2019s Cupboard<\/a><\/strong>, the on-campus resource for students facing food insecurity.<\/p>\n

Now in its 27th year, the concert helps \u201craise food to support the community and our students here on campus, which is why it takes place the Monday before Thanksgiving,\u201d said Ethan McDaniel, adjunct instructor and director of the\u00a0Percussion Ensemble in the\u00a0Department of Music.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe live concerts are a great way to bring like-minded people together to support a cause that is larger than the individual self,\u201d he said. \u201cIn this case, our goal is to expose the audience to different types of music while also supporting UTC students that need food and other necessary items.\u201d<\/p>\n

Admission to the concert is two cans of non-perishable food items or any other donation to Scrappy\u2019s Cupboard, which began in 2017. For a list of approved items, click here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Colton Brown, a junior in music education and a member of the Percussion Ensemble, said \u201chelping others should be a core value in everyone\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHere in the music department, we know this to be true and we embody that every time we perform, rehearse or even just going through our day,\u201d he said. \u201cWe may look like an ensemble onstage but we are truly a family.<\/p>\n

\u201cUTC is just a larger part of that, and that\u2019s why it\u2019s important to have events like \u2018Beat Hunger\u2019 on campus. This concert gives us as an ensemble an opportunity to invite those outside our family to come in, enjoy a concert and make themselves at home while simultaneously making an impactful difference to those who are in need in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
