The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Power C Tour, a statewide outreach effort to prospective students on academic programs, admissions, housing, financial aid and campus life at UTC, returned home for an overflow University Center event on Wednesday, Nov. 8.<\/p>\n

The Power C Tour gave high school students, transfers, graduate students and their families a feel for UTC. Representatives from the academic colleges, student services and the UTC Executive Leadership Team\u2014plus current students and mascot Scrappy\u2014 were on hand to answer inquiries and establish relationships in a laid-back, welcoming setting.<\/p>\n

The Chattanooga event followed October visits to Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville. The four tour stops attracted 1,033 total students, parents and guests. Of the 446 students who attended, more than 30% (138) were admitted to UTC in a \u201cMoc Minute,\u201d an initiative allowing qualified high school seniors to apply for free to the University at the event.<\/p>\n

Along with presentations, information booths and light refreshments, each tour stop featured opportunities for high school seniors to win prizes\u2014including $1,000 Power C scholarships presented by Chancellor Steven R. Angle.<\/p>\n

The chancellor also gave a brief talk praising the merits of UTC and Chattanooga.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents, take advantage of things you might not have known about, like the Honors College and study abroad programs,\u201d he told the University Center audience. \u201cOur students get involved and engaged in the life of our campus and the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWherever you go, get engaged and do something related to what you think you\u2019re going to do in the future\u2014and there are a lot of choices.\u201d<\/p>\n

Three prospective students took home $1,000 scholarships at the University Center event. Other prizes awarded included two $500 housing deposits, orientation and registration discounts, and UTC-themed gear.<\/p>\n

The Power C Tour Chattanooga stop was the first of two large-scale recruiting events taking place this week at the University Center.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Undergraduate Admissions Office will host its annual Blue and Gold Preview Day for prospective students and their families. Blue and Gold Preview Day includes a campus tour, an academic department fair, a student organization showcase and a residence hall open house.<\/p>\n
