Photo by Angela Foster.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Signature cuisine from five Chattanooga-area vendors was on display at the third annual \u201cTaste of Black Chattanooga,\u201d which took place on Thursday, Feb. 22, in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga\u2019s University Center Tennessee Room.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by Student Success Programs, the food sampling was part of UTC Black History Month events.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal Edenfield, director of Student Success Programs, helped launch \u201cTaste of Black Chattanooga\u201d three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s important to feature businesses of color and businesses of color that are locally owned,\u201d she said. \u201cFood is something that always connects people and it\u2019s something every culture has. We wanted to connect people with food, educate people with food and help them understand differences through food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laurenz Howard, coordinator of Student Success Programs, discussed how important events like \u201cTaste of Black Chattanooga\u201d are for Black students who should feel represented while on campus.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that students are not always able to visit different local restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere, they can get the same food, the same experience, but a little more intimate,\u201d he said. \u201cThey get to meet some of the owners and I think that\u2019s really beneficial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chattanooga native Jeremiah Chambers, an education major and Freshman Senate president, attended the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlack History Month may exist to celebrate the past,\u201d Chambers said. \u201cI think events like this help us celebrate the present and the future as well as provide transparency to who the Black businesses are in our area and
