<\/strong>Nobel Laureate Peter A. Diamond, recent nominee for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, will speak on Monday, October 17 at noon in the University Center Auditorium, addressing the topic \u201cMarkets and Government.\u201d This event, part of the Burkett Miller Distinguished Lecture Series, is free and open to the public. Seating is limited to a first-come, first-served basis. <\/p>\n

Diamond earned the Ph.D. in Economics from M.I.T. and is currently an Institute Professor at M.I.T.\u00a0 He is known for his analysis of U.S. Social Security policy and served in numerous capacities as an advisor to the Advisory Council on Social Security during the 1980s and 1990s.<\/p>\n

Diamond received the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his analysis of markets with search frictions in which he analyzed the foundations of search markets.\u00a0 His model helps to understand the ways in which unemployment, job vacancies, and wages are affected by regulation and economic policy.\u00a0 Search theory has also been applied to questions relating to the housing market, monetary policy, public economics, financial economics, regional economics, and family economics.<\/p>\n
