{"id":600,"date":"2008-05-09T14:49:15","date_gmt":"2008-05-09T18:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/Administration\/UniversityRelations\/news\/?p=231"},"modified":"2008-05-09T14:49:15","modified_gmt":"2008-05-09T18:49:15","slug":"department-of-communication-earns-re-accreditation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2008\/05\/department-of-communication-earns-re-accreditation\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Communication earns re-accreditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) recently re-accredited the Department of Communication at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.<\/p>\n<p>The Council made accreditation decisions for 21 schools and now accredits 112 in the United States and one outside the country. The Council conducts voluntary reviews for schools with professional journalism and mass communications programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe stamp of approval from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) indicates that the UTC communication department meets the basic nine standards of quality,\u201d said Dr. Kittrell Rushing, head of the Department of Communication. \u201cTo repeat a now much overused clich\u00e9, it does \u2018take a village\u2019 to meet the standards of accreditation quality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rushing, who has served as department head for nearly 18 years, will step aside from that position next month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sincerely cherish the support over my time as the department head from students, faculty, alumni, and professionals,\u201d Rushing said.  \u201cWE have taken what was 18 years ago a small, unaccredited program with big dreams to a program, accredited, and recognized nationally as one of the better state university small programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UTC&#8217;s communication curriculum prepares students to enter the professions related to journalism and mass communication.
