The UTC Master Chorale is completing its fifth summer season with a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday June 20 at First Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Avenue. The Chorale is conducted by Dr. J. Kevin Ford, UTC Director of Choral Activities, and the organist is David Friberg, organist at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church. Additionally, works will be conducted by UTC graduate students Kim Pringle, choral director at East Ridge High School, and Rebecca Brown, music teacher at Michigan Avenue Elementary School (Bradley County).<\/p>\n
The concert repertoire this year features Benjamin Britten\u2019s \u201cFestival Te Deum\u201d and Edward Elgar\u2019s \u201cTe Deum\u201d, Op. 34, No. 1. The concert will also feature a set of sacred part songs that treat their respective texts in a more mystical fashion including Brahms \u201cGeistliches Lied\u201d, Op. 30, and \u201cLass Dich Nur Nichts Nicht Dauren,\u201d Olivier Messiaen\u2019s setting of \u201cO sacrum convivium!\u201d, \u201cDiffusa est gratia\u201d by Lithuanian composer Vytautas Mi\u0161kinis and \u201cO Magnum Mysterium\u201d by American composer Ned Rorem. The concert will conclude with shorter works by Randall Stroope, Normon Luboff and pieces from South Africa and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n
The Master Chorale was formed in 2004 to provide a summer performing ensemble for graduate and undergraduate students and community singers. Additionally the group provides a workshop chorus for graduate conducting students. The group meets each summer for a six-week rehearsal run culminating in a public concert working toward the goal of singing an advanced repertoire for concert chorus.<\/p>\n
