\"Dr Dr. Nick Honerkamp, Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Archeology Institute, was among those honored by the Historic Preservation Division (HPD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, which presented its 12th annual Preservation Achievement Awards following a Georgia National Register Review Board meeting in Mableton.<\/p>\n

Award recipients were recognized for their contributions while working in conjunction with HPD and its programs. These individuals and organizations were nominated by division staff members and were recognized as having helped further HPD’s mission, vision, and goals, thereby making a significant contribution to historic preservation in Georgia.<\/p>\n

Honerkamp was awarded for conducting the annual Fort Frederica National Monument Teacher’s Workshop and his public outreach projects and archaeological research on Sapelo Island resources.<\/p>\n

The Historic Preservation Division (HPD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources serves as Georgia’s state historic preservation office. The Division\u2019s mission is to promote the preservation and use of historic places for a better Georgia. HPD’s programs include archaeology protection and education, environmental review, grants, historic resource surveys, tax incentives, community planning, technical assistance, and the National Register of Historic Places.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
