With a week of \u201cScrappy Every After\u201d themed events, this year\u2019s University of Tennessee at Chattanooga homecoming activities will be nothing short of a fairytale.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Numerous campus departments have prepared activities to bring students, alumni, faculty and staff together to feel the UTC school spirit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The festivities kick off on Saturday, Oct. 19, with UTC\u2019s annual Day of Service<\/a><\/strong>, encouraging the campus community to give back through service projects both on and off campus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re partnering with facilities on campus for a community cleanup,\u201d said Kidron Bullock, the coordinator for the Office of Student and Family Engagement. \u201cWe\u2019ll also be making care kits for children at Erlanger Hospital and helping Chattanooga ShowerUp, which is a mobile shower unit for those in need.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the week, students can look forward to a mix of new and returning events.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At <\/span>Fairytale Plush and Sweets<\/span><\/b><\/a> on Tuesday, Oct. 22, attendees can stuff their own plush frogs, dragons or unicorns while enjoying themed treats.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That night, an <\/span>Enchanted Costume Gala<\/span><\/b><\/a> invites guests to dress up and enjoy a night of dancing, music and snacks, with costumes encouraged but not required.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the spirit of the theme, students can attempt to \u201cbust out of jail\u201d in an inflatable jail escape room at <\/span>Happy Scrappy Friendships Ever After<\/span><\/b><\/a> on Wednesday, Oct. 23. At the movie showing \u201c<\/span>Princess and the Frog<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u201d on Thursday, Oct. 24, visitors will be able to make a fairy light craft and enjoy a New Orleans-style dinner.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, signature fan favorites will be returning, including the <\/span>Kickoff Pep Rally<\/span><\/b><\/a> at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, on Chamberlain Field, where the <\/span>Homecoming Court<\/span><\/b><\/a> will be announced\u2014and the annual <\/span>Lip Sync Battle<\/span><\/b><\/a> (Wednesday, Oct. 23).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLip Sync is a big one,\u201d Bullock said. \u201cWe have over a thousand people in attendance, and we\u2019ll have eight performing organizations that will be doing different themes.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the <\/span>Downtown Pep Rally<\/span><\/b><\/a> on Friday, Oct. 25, the campus community is invited to meet at Miller Plaza to show their UTC pride in the heart of Chattanooga.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The final and most anticipated event is the homecoming football game, where the Mocs will compete against Southern Conference rival Virginia Military Institute. Kickoff at Finley Stadium is at 4 p.m., and the homecoming king and queen will be crowned during halftime.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With 16 homecoming events, Bullock urged everyone to get out and have fun.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an overwhelming amount of events,\u201d Bullock said, \u201cbut I want to encourage students that they should be able to find one thing and attend.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The \u201cScrappy Ever After\u201d design is thanks to Jacob Cate, who has designed the homecoming theme for the past three years as a student worker in the UTC Division of Communications and Marketing.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was really excited about the fairytale theme,\u201d said Cate, a senior studio art major. \u201cI really like fantasy in general, and I was thinking of the old Disney movies that open up with a storybook.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In years past, he drew the designs by hand. This year, he created them digitally.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI previously hand-drew Scrappy as an astronaut,\u201d he said, \u201cbut I\u2019ve gotten pretty adept at doing it with a mouse.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
