The doors will open at 6 p.m.; seating is limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year, the lecture series has provided an incredible opportunity for UTC students and faculty \u2013 as well as the broader community \u2013 to engage around critical community issues,\u201d said UTC Chancellor Roger Brown. \u201cWe are proud to partner with the Benwood Foundation to have Dr. Pinsky, a nationally recognized poet, participate in the series.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now in its fourth year, the George T. Hunter Lecture series is sponsored by the Benwood Foundation and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.\u00a0 Past speakers have included Doris Kearns Goodwin, Malcolm Gladwell, Mayor Cory Booker and Michelle Rhee.<\/p>\n<p>Author and local food advocate, Michael Pollan, will close out the 2011-2012 Lecture Series on April 19th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Dr. Robert Pinsky<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his career, Pinsky has been dedicated to identifying and invigorating poetry\u2019s place in the world. As Poet Laureate, Pinsky founded the Favorite Poem Project, in which thousands of Americans \u2014 of varying backgrounds, all ages, and from every state \u2014 shared their favorite poems. Pinsky believed that, contrary to stereotype, poetry had a vigorous presence in the American cultural landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Pinsky\u2019s poems have earned praise for their musical energy and ambitious range.\u00a0<em>Selected Poems<\/em>, (spring 2011) is his most recent volume of poetry. His\u00a0<em>The Figured Wheel: New and Collected Poems 1966-1996<\/em>\u00a0was a Pulitzer Prize nominee and received the Lenore Marshall Award and the Ambassador Book Award of the English Speaking Union. His other books about poetry include\u00a0<em>Poetry and the World<\/em>, nominated for the National Book Critics\u2019 Circle Award,\u00a0<em>Gulf Music<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>The Sounds of Poetry<\/em>, a brief guide treasured by many young poets.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Pinsky\u2019s\u00a0best-selling translation of<em>\u00a0The Inferno<\/em> of Dante received the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> Book Award in poetry and the Howard Morton Landon Prize for translation.<\/p>\n<p>The poetry editor for the online magazine\u00a0<em>Slate<\/em>, Pinsky appears regularly on\u00a0<em>The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer<\/em>, and publishes frequently in magazines such as\u00a0<em>The New Yorker<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Atlantic Monthly<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Threepenny Review<\/em>,\u00a0<em>American Poetry Review<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>The Best American Poetry<\/em>\u00a0anthologies.
