{"id":634,"date":"2008-07-11T12:42:09","date_gmt":"2008-07-11T16:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/Administration\/UniversityRelations\/news\/?p=263"},"modified":"2008-07-11T12:42:09","modified_gmt":"2008-07-11T16:42:09","slug":"construction-management-program-information-session-offered-august-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2008\/07\/construction-management-program-information-session-offered-august-13\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction Management program information session offered August 13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An information session about UTC\u2019s successful new Construction Management program is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Maytag room (EMCS 426) in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of this information session is to inform more people about this new Construction Management program, recruit more students into the program, and provide an environment that either new or prospective students can network with local construction company representatives and contractors to see the high market demand for this major and learn more about job placement and other opportunities,\u201d said Neslihan Alp, Ph.D., P.E., Director of Engineering Management and Graduate Programs and UC Foundation Professor.<\/p>\n<p>A partnership with the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science, Chattanooga State Community College, Cleveland State Community College and Associated General Contractors (AGC) of East Tennessee announced the establishment of the new degree program, which will begin in fall 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, no colleges or universities in the state of Tennessee offer a baccalaureate or graduate program in Construction Management.<\/p>\n<p>The B.S. in Engineering Technology Management (ETM) with the concentration in Construction Management at UTC will provide graduates with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that are valued and sought by the construction industry both locally and regionally. The new program also can be taken as a 2+2 degree program with the Chattanooga State and Cleveland State Community Colleges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have advised almost 50 students for the Construction Management program, so the actual number will probably be higher than this in the fall 2008 semester,\u201d Alp said.\u00a0 \u201cOur first year expectation was 10-15 students, so I\u2019m very excited and pleased with the high turnover.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Associated General Contractors (AGC) of East Tennessee is the major sponsor of this program.<\/p>\n<p>This degree program requires 127 hours.
