University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chancellor Roger Brown joined other local and state leaders to celebrate Volkswagen\u2019s plans to build an automobile plant in Chattanooga.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we look forward to a new school year, our community has received wonderful news that Volkswagen officials have chosen Chattanooga as the home for the company\u2019s new automobile plant,\u201d said UTC Chancellor Roger Brown. \u201cThis campus has been involved in the discussions with Volkswagen, and we anticipate working with local and Volkswagen officials as the plant becomes operational. This brings many job opportunities for our students, alumni, and their families. I suspect that some departments and individual faculty members will find research opportunities working with Volkswagen and other businesses that follow the plant to Chattanooga.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe this will bring a tremendous boost to our regional economy and I am proud that UTC may have played a role in this achievement for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

University of Tennessee President John Petersen said, \u201cThe decision by Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., to build a U.S. production facility in Chattanooga is a further validation of this region\u2019s emerging role in the automotive industry. The University of Tennessee is committed to being a strong partner with both the city and with the Volkswagen Group to help maximize this tremendous opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the plant moves toward operation and other businesses grow to support it, career opportunities in engineering, computer science, business, communication, foreign language, and other disciplines will develop for citizens with the academic preparation and experience. UTC will be working with Volkswagen leaders to ensure our students have opportunities to grow with the company.<\/p>\n
