This event is free of charge and is open to the public.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The program will feature several of the department members demonstrating their unique abilities in chamber music ensembles. Among the highlights of the evening is Maurice Ravel\u2019s<em>\u00a0Chansons mad\u00e9cases<\/em>. Written in 1925, it is based on melodies from Madagascar. Dr. Rebecca St. Goar, mezzo-soprano will be accompanied by Dr. Sin-Hsing Tsai, piano, Jenny Wilkes, cello and Gordon James, horn for this work.<\/p>\n<p>Composed in 2007 for William Mann,\u00a0<em>Trifecta<\/em>\u00a0by Dr. Kenyon Wilson, UTC tuba\/euphonium professor, is a lively trombone feature piece for brass quintet.\u00a0<em>Trifecta<\/em>\u00a0is written in a rondo form and intersperses sections of slow lyricism with capricious energetic sections. Performers are Dr. Erika Schaefer\u00a0and Tommy Bulman, (trumpet), Gordon James (horn), Rich Stichler (trombone), and Kenyon Wilson (tuba).<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Sonata for Two Pianists, String Bass and Percussion, No. 1<\/em>\u00a0was born when the composer Claude Bolling met the pianist Emanuel Ax and wrote a sonata for him. Conceived as one continual work, as opposed to a many movement work, it incorporates elements of both the classical and jazz cultures. Faculty pianists Tsai and David Walters\u00a0will be joined by Eric Hanson, bass, and Monte Coulter, percussion, for this piece.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the program will be the\u00a0<em>\u00c9pitaphe de Jean Harlow, Op. 164<\/em>by Charles Koechlin performed by Dr. Heather Small (flute), Clint Schmitt \u00a0(sax), and Tsai (piano); the Bernard Heiden &#8220;Sonata for Horn and Piano&#8221; performed by Gordon James (horn) and Tsai (piano); and the &#8220;Solo de Concours&#8221; by Th\u00e9o Charlier performed by Schafer (trumpet) and Tsai (piano)<\/p>\n<p>For information regarding this performance, see the Music Dept. website at <a href=\"http:\/\/utc.edu\/Music\">http:\/\/utc.edu\/music<\/a>, or call the Music office at 423-425-4645.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UTC Department of Music is hosting a Faculty Chamber Recital on Thursday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall in the UTC Fine Arts Center.
