Many of the 237 undergraduate and 85 graduate students who completed their degrees in August returned to campus to join in the ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">===============================================================<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/utchattanooga\/albums\/72177720322503807\/\"><b>Click here for UTC photographer Angela Foster&#8217;s fall 2024 commencement Flickr photo gallery<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">===============================================================<\/p>\n<p>The UTC class of 2024 included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2024\/12\/on-a-mission-first-dnp-nurse-anesthesia-cohort-prepares-to-graduate\/\"><strong>Andrew Hester and Lauren Evans<\/strong><\/a>, members of UTC\u2019s first Doctor of Nursing Practice Nurse Anesthesia cohort\u2014whose three years of rigorous work in the program included participating in a mission trip to Honduras.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2024\/12\/a-graduates-journey-how-utc-shaped-my-path-and-prepared-me-for-whats-next\/\"><strong>Carter Graham<\/strong><\/a>, completing bachelor\u2019s degrees in both communication and business administration: management, whose career path took a turn after learning about a sports writing course.<\/li>\n<li>Economics major <a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2024\/12\/the-best-things-that-happened-were-accidents-as-commencement-nears-aria-beloate-reflects-on-her-utc-experience\/\"><strong>Aria Beloate<\/strong><\/a>, whose \u201cgateway\u201d decision of signing up for the Student Government Association as a freshman opened the door to countless opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>Civil engineering major <a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2024\/12\/transfer-student-jeremiah-taylors-path-to-graduation-leadership-growth-and-community-at-utc\/\"><strong>Jeremiah Taylor<\/strong><\/a>, a Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences graduate who quickly \u201cfound his place\u201d on campus after transferring to UTC.<\/li>\n<li>Sociology major <a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2024\/12\/staying-vigilant-braden-stillwells-road-to-success\/\"><strong>Braden Stillwell<\/strong><\/a>, who\u2014during his time at UTC\u2014started a sociology club, was vice president of the SGA and was elected homecoming king this October.<\/li>\n<li>History major <a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2024\/12\/from-marine-to-utc-grad-how-brad-crush-turned-military-training-into-a-degree\/\"><strong>Brad Crush<\/strong><\/a>, who turned his U.S. Marine Corps training into 50 college credits thanks to his Joint Service Transcript.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another celebrant during Saturday\u2019s undergraduate commencement was Olympic weightlifting gold medalist <a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2024\/09\/campus-parade-celebrates-utc-student-and-olympic-gold-medalist-olivia-reeves\/\"><strong>Olivia Reeves<\/strong><\/a>\u2014the recipient of a bachelor\u2019s degree in sociology. Reeves, the first currently-enrolled UTC student to participate in the Olympics, won gold in Paris in August\u2014then won the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships earlier this week in Bahrain before flying back to Chattanooga for the graduation ceremony.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">===============================================================<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/tag\/commencement-2024\/\"><strong>Click here for more UTC Commencement 2024 stories<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">===============================================================<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor Steven R. Angle, who has led the University since 2013, attended his final commencement in that role. On Nov. 5, he announced that he would transition from his leadership role to join the faculty on Jan. 1, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>UT System President Randy Boyd commemorated Angle\u2019s tenure during Saturday\u2019s ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were talking this morning about how many commencements he\u2019s done in those 11 years. He\u2019s done over 50 commencements, but sadly, today is his last,\u201d Boyd told the McKenzie Arena audience. \u201cHe let us know that he\u2019s going to return to teach and do research\u2014his loves\u2014at the start of the year. So we\u2019re going to be forever thankful for all of his work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust to highlight a few of the tremendous accomplishments, over $700 million in new development and construction across the campus. Everybody who\u2019s been on this campus for any period of time has seen the tremendous transformation that\u2019s taken place. There are over $400 million more projects or dollars\u2019 worth of projects that are about to begin. Research has increased by over 100% in just the last few years and enrollment this last year \u2026 an all-time record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his remarks, Angle talked about starting his academic career as a professor doing research and teaching organic chemistry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring my time in the classroom, my students taught me so many valuable lessons. I think I learned more than they did,\u201d Angle said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most important things he said they taught him came at the end of the second semester of organic chemistry when his students unfurled a banner that read, \u201cWe are the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had never looked at what I did as touching the future every day. But that\u2019s exactly what this University does because our students are our future,\u201d he explained. \u201cI had never said it to them, but they were really insightful and taught me a lesson that allowed me to approach my job very differently\u2014and at UTC, we have strived to focus on our students and the quality of that experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m standing in front of our future. Students, you are our future and congratulations on your accomplishments.
