During his senior year, Student Government Association President Jordan Fall has had the unique opportunity of serving two different chancellors and serving on the committee to find the next chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After Chancellor Steven Angle announced he would be stepping down in November to return to a faculty role, Dean of the Gary W. Rollins College of Business Robert Dooley was appointed interim chancellor while the UT System worked on finding a permanent replacement for Angle.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the beginning of the UT System\u2019s search, Fall was asked to be a part of the committee that would find UTC\u2019s new leader. Since joining the committee, he has helped put together a job profile, sift through candidates and participated in interviews.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s been one of the highlights of my college career,\u201d said Fall, who will be graduating from UTC on Saturday, May 3, with a bachelor\u2019s degree in marketing. \u201cIt’s really fascinating to watch and participate in such a high-level search. It really shows you the amount of detail and where that goes in every aspect of (the hiring process).\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As SGA president, Fall sees his position as a big responsibility to advocate for and protect his fellow students. In the search for a new chancellor, Fall recognized that he was the only student on the search committee, putting the weight of the student body\u2019s desires and opinions on his shoulders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI’m the only student on that committee, so being the one person under the age of 40 on the search really advocating for our needs, it’s something really special and it’s something I don’t take lightly,\u201d Fall said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While administrators make the final decisions, Fall appreciates the value they see in having student opinions as they are the basis for which an institution runs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After working with Angle and Dooley, he has been impressed by the passion and dedication they have shown to the school and its students.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think the bottom line for both of them is they really value the student opinion because almost every single decision they make they would consult with (SGA), at least the student decisions,\u201d Fall said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While Fall never expected his time with SGA to lead to such a unique opportunity, he is grateful for the chance to play such an important role behind the scenes, especially as a younger president in SGA history.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was only my third year as a student, which is a little uncommon for a president,\u201d Fall said. \u201cIt’s usually like fourth-year senior supermen, but I was like, \u2018I think I’m ready for this. I think I have decent enough experience, especially since I’ve served in an officer position since my freshman year. I think I’m ready for it. I have the passion for it.\u201d\u2019<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During his time at UTC, Fall has also been a resident advisor, an orientation leader and a member of several student organizations. However, no experience has impacted him as much as SGA.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, I’m just super passionate about this organization and I’m super<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>passionate about the student body,\u201d Fall said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Being a marketing major, Fall explained that his experiences at UTC\u2014especially with SGA\u2014have helped him find his interests and goals for the future. Now, he hopes to run his own marketing firm centered on assisting businesses to stay up-to-date with the digital age so they can be more successful.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While Fall was not in any leadership roles in high school, he started college in 2022 determined to get involved and make meaningful connections. Now, he encourages his fellow students to do the same.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
