{"id":706,"date":"2008-10-16T14:33:43","date_gmt":"2008-10-16T18:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/Administration\/UniversityRelations\/news\/?p=335"},"modified":"2008-10-16T14:33:43","modified_gmt":"2008-10-16T18:33:43","slug":"three-artists-exhibit-at-the-cress-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2008\/10\/three-artists-exhibit-at-the-cress-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Three artists exhibit at the Cress Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Through their ability to elicit contemplative beauty and thought, each of three artists exhibiting at the Cress Gallery turn simple base material into works of innate value.<\/p>\n<p>Through November 26, the Cress Gallery will exhibit the work of these artists:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jade Townsend<\/strong>, of Brooklyn, New York, presents \u201cBorn Between,\u201d a sculptural installation.<\/p>\n<p>Townsend\u2019s work at its basic level addresses greed, avarice, and the inability of mankind to work together towards a common goal. Yet the richness of his visual narrative reveals deeper analogies achieved through philosophical, literary, and symbolic references, all not without a touch of irony and humor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Wagner<\/strong>, of Chicago, Illinois, is a UTC alumna of the Department of Art.\u00a0 As a UTC student, she was a Brock Scholar.\u00a0 Her sculptural installation is entitled \u201c Nuclear Family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wagner\u2019s work is inspired by her research into ecological catastrophes such as the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and the subsequent rebound of the natural world within the uninhabitable zone surrounding the reactors.
