The string orchestra of the Chattanooga Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Robert Bernhardt, will present \u201cA History of Classical Music in 60 Minutes\u201d on November 9 at 3 p.m. in the UTC University Center auditorium.\u00a0 This event is the sixth annual program presented by the Connor Society to honor the late UTC English professor, George Connor. The program is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year\u2019s event focuses on one of George\u2019s many interests\u2014classical music,\u201d said Dr. Clif Cleaveland, founder of the Connor Society.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeginning with the Pachelbel Canon in D, Maestro Bernhardt will lead orchestra and audience on an exciting journey through examples of\u00a0 baroque, classical, romantic, and modern masterpieces, interspersing music with brief descriptions of composers, traditions, and music.\u00a0 The program is appropriate for all ages, so bring children and grandchildren.\u201d<\/p>\n
Each year the Connor Society seeks to honor different aspects of the career and interests Connor, long-time head of the UTC English Department and one of the university\u2019s most influential professors.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Following the hour-long symphony program, the Society will host the orchestra and audience at an informal reception in the Chattanooga Rooms of the University Center.<\/p>\n
