The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga\u2019s InfoSec Center<\/a>, a Center for Information Assurance (CIA), will offer scholarships in information assurance beginning in the 2009-10 academic year. Funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), these scholarships cover full tuition, related books, required fees, room and board and a yearly stipend of $17,000 for graduate students and $12,000 for undergraduates.<\/p>\n

The InfoSec Center is located in the UTC Department of Computer Science and Engineering and is run in collaboration with the UTC Departments of Management and Criminal Justice.\u00a0 The Center prepares undergraduate and graduate students to meet the challenges created by rapid developments in information technologies and the emergence of new threats and attacks on critical information infrastructure. Additionally, this regional model for promoting excellence in information security education assists businesses, government agencies, education institutions and industry in their information security needs, and serves as the first point of call for any information security emergency.<\/p>\n

The scholarships will be available to full-time UTC juniors, seniors, graduate students and transfer students who meet eligibility requirements. Applicants must be majoring in a field associated with computer and network security and its management, including biometrics, engineering, computer science or computer programming, computer support, data base administration, computer systems analysis, operations research, information security, and business management or administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the InfoSec Center, we offer a certified curriculum by the U.S. Department of Defense, National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security,\u201d said Dr. Joseph Kizza, Director of the InfoSec Center.\u00a0 \u201cWe currently offer a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in information security and assurance.\u201d<\/p>\n

After completing their degrees, recipients must be willing to work for the U.S. Department of Defense for one calendar year for each year of financial support received or serve two years in the Reserves or National Guard for each year of financial support.<\/p>\n
