Dr. D. Stephen Long, professor of Systematic Theology at Marquette University in Milwaukee, will present \u201cWhy Jesus is Not Ethical\u201d for the Thirty-first Annual C.S. Lewis Lecture on Thursday, April 11, 7:30 p.m. in the UTC University Center Auditorium.<\/p>\n
This event is free and open to the public.\u00a0 The lecture is sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, UTC, and Covenant College.<\/p>\n
Long majored in chemistry at Taylor University where he considered medical school.\u00a0 \u201cHis transition as a student from the hard sciences to theology\u2026emerged from detours in his life that took him to Haiti and Honduras, both of which raised questions for him that continue to haunt and shape his work.\u201d<\/p>\n
He is an ordained United Methodist and served churches in Honduras and North Carolina.<\/p>\n
Long says he \u201cwas baptized by the Anabaptists, educated by the evangelicals, ordained and pastorally formed by the Methodists and given his first position as professor of theology by the Jesuits, which makes him either ecumenically inclined or theologically confused.\u201d<\/p>\n
