The Music Department and Master Chorale present the Master Chorale 2013 Summer Concert to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.<\/p>\n

\n

This free performance will be presented on Thursday, June 20, 7:30 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine Street, Chattanooga.\u00a0 Donations to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund will be accepted at the performance.<\/p>\n

The concert will be offered in two parts.\u00a0 The first features The Requiem<\/i>, by North Carolina native Steve Dobrogosz,<\/i> and the second, a set of love songs. The Requiem<\/i> was premi\u00e8red in the United States by the UTC Music Department in February 2010 as a fundraiser for earthquake relief in Haiti. This forty-five minute work was originally performed in the composer\u2019s current home Stockholm, Sweden, before making its way to Chattanooga. Amy Oakes, soprano, is the soloist for this piece.<\/p>\n

Love songs will be conducted by students and will feature James Mulholland\u2019s \u201cA Red, Red Rose,\u201d Morten Lauridsen\u2019s \u201cDirait-On,\u201d Robert H. Young\u2019s \u201cLovesight,\u201d Egil Hovland\u2019s \u201cKarin Baye\u2019s Evening Prayer,\u201d Benjamin Britten\u2019s \u201cFancie,\u201d and Alberto Favero\u2019s \u201cTe Quiero.\u201d\u00a0 Soloists for \u201cTe Quiero\u201d are James McClary, bass, and altos Jennifer Allen and Gabrielle Haston.<\/p>\n

Master Chorale <\/b>is a volunteer group comprised of 37 graduate and undergraduate students, as well as talented singers from the Chattanooga, Dalton, and Sewanee communities. Graduate student conductors this summer are Denise Adeniyi, graduate student, Ashley Cisto, Choral Director at Hixson High School and Kevin Moore, Choral Director at Ringgold High School.<\/p>\n

Dr. J. Kevin Ford has served as Director of Choral Activities at UTC for nine years.\u00a0 David Friberg is organist at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church and is the accompanist for Chattanooga Choral Arts.<\/p>\n
