<\/strong>The following UTC Faculty and Staff have attracted $763,934<\/strong> in external grant and contract awards:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hill Craddock and Taylor Perkins (Biology, Geology and Environmental Sciences) in collaboration with the University of Missouri have received $11,510 from the Missouri Department of Conservation for the project entitled, “Population genomics of diversity, adaptation, and gene flow in American chestnut.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Deborah McAllister (School of Education), in collaboration with Georgia Tech Research Institute, has received $17,000 from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for the project entitled, “Inspiring NASA’s Next Generation through Building, Coding, and Machine Learning Missions (NASA ML-BOTS).”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jejal Reddy Bathi (Civil & Chemical Engineering), Dr. Kidambi Sreenivas (Mechanical Engineering), and Dr. Stephanie DeVries (Biology, Geology and Environmental Sciences) have received $24,997 from the Environmental Protection Agency for the project entitled, “Microplastics Sampling for Stormwater Management.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Lani Gao (Mathematics) has requested and received $29,672 from TeleSpecialists for the project entitled, “Graduate Assistantship via Data Analysis.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bryan Lane (WUTC) has requested and received $109,543 from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for the project entitled, “Radio Community Service Grant for WUTC.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Yunye Shi (Mechanical Engineering) has received $196,995 from the US – NSF – National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Characterizing and improving algae-derived biofuel droplet burning.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Belinda Lee (Center for Community Career Education) has received $374,217 from the Department of Education for the project entitled, “University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Upward Bound Program.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/strong>The following UTC faculty and staff members submitted proposals for the potential to generate over $3,892,574<\/strong> in external funding, if awarded<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jose Barbosa (Biology, Geology and Environmental Sciences) and Dr. Sandra Affare (Engineering Management & Technology) in collaboration with Northeastern University have requested $5,321 from The National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Agriculture & Nutrition for Girls While Encouraging Leadership & Stem-Enrichment (ANGELS).”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Tian Li (Chemistry and Physics) and Dr. Donald Reising (Electrical Engineering) have requested $799,935 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Deep Learning Aided Distributed Quantum Phase Sensing with Squeezed States.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hamdy Ibrahim (Mechanical Engineering), in collaboration with the UT Institute of Agriculture and UT Health Science Center, has requested $797,276 from the Department of Defense  for the project entitled, “Bioactive magnesium implants with controlled degradation and biocompatibility for orthopaedic applications.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Michael Danquah (Civil and Chemical Engineering) and Dr. Reetesh Ranjan (Mechanical Engineering) in collaboration with several other public universities have requested $249,865 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Innovations in enzyme engineering for enhanced CO2 capture.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Mohammad Mahtabi (Mechanical Engineering), in collaboration with Purdue University Northwest, has requested $192,150 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Structural Integrity Assessment of Next-Generation Additively Manufactured Parts using Seeded Defects.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Andrew Bailey (Health & Human Performance) and Charlie Mix (IGTLab) have requested $8,983 from the Chattanooga Sports Committee for the project entitled, “Chattanooga Marathon.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Krysta Murillo, Charlotte Ellington, Dr. Allen Pratt, and Dr. Kim Wingate (School of Education) have requested $100,000 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for the project entitled, “Each One Reach One 2023-2025.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlie Mix (IGTLab) and Nyssa Hunt have requested $29,565 from the Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership for the project entitled, “Aquatic Connectivity Barrier Geospatial Data Validation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Joanne Romagni (Vice Chancellor for Research) has requested $1,672,083 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for several projects supporting academic initiatives and educational excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Anthony Skjellum (SIMCenter) has requested $34,312 from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for the project entitled, “Low-level Message Passing Benchmarks.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
