Funded Proposals (7\/1\/2016 – 7\/30\/2016)<\/b><\/p>\n

CONGRATULATIONS!<\/b><\/p>\n

The following UTC faculty and staff recently attracted $250,017 in external grant and contract awards:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Stuart Benkert<\/b>, Director of <\/span>Complete College Tracking & Assessment<\/span><\/a>, has received $151,199 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission\u2019s Institutional Outcome Improvement Fund Grant (IOIF). <\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Laurie Melnik<\/b>, Executive Director for the <\/span>Southeast Center for Education in the Arts<\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>Mr. Joel Baxley<\/b>, Director of Visual Art Education, have received $7,000 from the Tennessee Arts Commission for the 10th Annual Arts & Education Forum Series. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Henry Spratt<\/b> (<\/span>Biology, Geology and Environmental Science<\/span><\/a>) and <\/span>Dr. David Levine, <\/b>(<\/span>Physical Therapy<\/span><\/a>) have obtained $6,698 from Richmar, a local medical device and engineering company, towards the use of developing a protocol to disinfect Richmar\u2019s \u201cGelShot\u201d Ultrasound Coupling Gel and Retaining Clips.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Kidambi Sreenivas<\/b>, Research Professor at the <\/span>SimCenter<\/span><\/a>, has been awarded $4,000 from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in order to produce viscous flow simulations on Pelton turbines.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. John Freeze, <\/b>Director of <\/span>Continuing Education<\/span><\/a>, was awarded an additional $21,120 for the UT Institute of Public Service for the Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy (SECLA). He was previously awarded $11,500 for the same program in May of 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

Deputy Chief Craig Hamilton<\/b> (<\/span>UTC Police<\/span><\/a>), <\/span>Ms. Stephanie Rowland<\/b> (<\/span>Title IX Coordinator<\/span><\/a>), <\/span>Ms. Sara Peters<\/b> (<\/span>Women\u2019s Center<\/span><\/a>), and <\/span>Dr. Helen Eigenberg<\/b> (<\/span>Criminal Justice<\/span><\/a>), secured $60,000 from the Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs to improve UTC\u2019s ability to respond to sexual misconduct and relationship violence. <\/span><\/p>\n

The following UTC faculty and staff members submitted proposals with the potential to generate over $2,633,620 if awarded:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Jennifer Boyd<\/b> (<\/span>Biology, Geology and Environmental Science<\/span><\/a>) has requested $22,354 from the US Fish and Wildlife Service to assess the transplantation of White fringeless orchids into existing populations as a viable conservation strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Louie Elliott<\/b> (<\/span>Civil, Chemical and General Engineering<\/span><\/a>), has requested $37,856 from Gestamp for the simulation and modeling of sheet metal forming for Gestamp Chattanooga\u2019s automobile parts. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Loren Hayes<\/b> (<\/span>Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science<\/span><\/a>) and <\/span>Dr. Amanda Clark<\/b>, (<\/span>Psychology<\/span><\/a>) have requested $219,430 from The Hearst Foundation for their project, \u201cMinority Women in Science Initiative.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Farah Kandah<\/b> (<\/span>Computer Science and Engineering<\/span><\/a>) has requested $536,368 from the National Science Foundation\u2019s CAREER program for his project, \u201cAdopted Networking Design to Improve the Network Performance in Crowded and Critical Situations.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Daniel Loveless<\/b> (<\/span>Electrical Engineering<\/span><\/a>) has requested $500,000 from the National Science Foundation\u2019s CAREER program for his project, \u201cMaximizing Performance and Reliability through Stochastic Modeling.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Laurie Melnik<\/b>, Director of the <\/span>Southeast Center for Education in the Arts<\/span><\/a>, has requested $20,510 from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the I Come from a Place program, a multidisciplinary (drama, media arts, and literacy) direct learning project.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Jill Shelton<\/b> (<\/span>Psychology<\/span><\/a>) has requested $531,511 from the National Science Foundation\u2019s CAREER program for her project, \u201cRevealing the Dynamic Nature of Prospective Memory.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Takeo Suzuki<\/b>, Executive Director of <\/span>International Education<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> Dr. Robert Dooley<\/b>, Dean of the <\/span>College of Business<\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>Dr. Beverly Brockman, <\/b>Department Head of <\/span>Finance, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship<\/span><\/a>, have requested $81,337 from FHI 360 for their program \u201cYoung Transatlantic Leader Exchange: Entrepreneurship and Innovation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Weidong Wu<\/b> (<\/span>Civil Engineering<\/span><\/a>) has requested $547,414 from the National Science Foundation to develop rapid repair technology for levees and dams.<\/span><\/p>\n

Drs. Li Yang<\/b>, <\/span>Joseph Kizza<\/b> (<\/span>Computer Science and Engineering<\/span><\/a>) <\/span>Jennifer Ellis<\/b> (<\/span>Education<\/span><\/a>), and <\/span>Prof. Katherine Winters<\/b> (<\/span>Computer Science and Engineering<\/span><\/a>) have requested $136,840 from the National Institute of Standards and Technology\u2019s RAMPS program for cybersecurity education and workforce development. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
