The following UTC Faculty and Staff have attracted $1,317,706 <\/strong>in external grant and contract awards: <\/em><\/p>\n

Awards <\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Ahmed Eltom<\/strong> (Electrical Engineering) has received $712 from the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association for the project entitled, “2017 Lab Demonstrations for Tennessee Valley Public Power Association.”<\/p>\n

Dr. June Hanks<\/strong> and Dr. Catherine Smith<\/strong> (Physical Therapy) have received $1,000 from the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association for the project entitled, “Cross-Cultural Adaptability Study (US-DPT and Haitian PT students).”<\/p>\n

Dr. Robert Webster<\/strong> (SIM Center), Dr. Kidambi Sreenivas<\/strong> (Mechanical Engineering), Dr. Craig Tanis<\/strong> (Computer Science & Engineering) have received $421,997 from the Engility Corporation for the project entitled, “Heterogeneous HPC for High-order Stabilized Finite-elements on Moving and Deforming Domains.”<\/p>\n

Mr. Andrew Carroll<\/strong> and Mr. Charles Mix<\/strong> (Vice Chancellor for Research) have received $22,214 from the Mainspring Conservation Trust for the project entitled, “Mainspring Conservation Trust – Application Development.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Pamela Guess<\/strong> (School Psychology) has received $800,000 from the Tennessee Department of Education for the project entitled, “School Psychology Intern Program.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Marcia Noe<\/strong> (English) has received $6,000 from the Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature for the project entitled, “Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature Journal Editing.”<\/p>\n

Ms. Belinda Lee Brownlee<\/strong> (Center for Community Career Education) has received $7,783 from the US Department of Education for the project entitled, “UTC Upward Bound Program.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Zibin Guo<\/strong> (Sociology) has received $58,000 from the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs for the project entitled, “Wheelchair Tai Chi Program Expansion.”<\/p>\n

Proposals <\/strong><\/p>\n

The following UTC faculty and staff members submitted proposals for the potential to generate over $5,552,575 <\/strong>in external funding, if awarded: <\/em><\/p>\n

Dr. Neslihan Alp<\/strong> and Dr. Aldo McLean<\/strong> (Engineering Management & Technology) have requested $586,997 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “2+2 MET: Developing an Industry-Responsive Mechatronics AAS to BAS Pipeline for Engineering Technicians.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Kay Cowan<\/strong>, Dr. Lucien Ellington<\/strong> (School of Education), and Dr. Michelle Deardorff<\/strong> (Political Science & Public Service) have requested $74,994 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for the project entitled, “American and World History: Critical Turning Points.”<\/p>\n

Dr. David Ferrier<\/strong> and Dr. Katherine Rogers<\/strong> (Psychology) have requested $224,811 from the Foundation for Child Development for the project entitled, “In Loco Parentis: The Impact of Teachers and School Contexts in Socializing Social-Emotional Competence and Self-Regulatory Abilities in Early Childhood.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Joseph Kizza<\/strong>, Dr. Farah Kandah<\/strong>, Dr. Hong Qin<\/strong>, Dr. Mina Sartipi<\/strong>, Dr. Dalei Wu<\/strong>, Dr. Li Yang <\/strong>(Computer Science & Engineering), Dr. Abdul Ofoli<\/strong>, Dr. Nurhidajat Sisworahardjo<\/strong> (Electrical Engineering), Dr. Neslihan Alp<\/strong> (Engineering Management & Technology), Dr. Karen Adsit<\/strong>, and Dr. Jennifer Ellis<\/strong> (School of Education) have requested $595,267 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “RET Site in Computer Science and Engineering: Cybersecurity Education for All – Developing a Broad-based Cyber Defense Workforce for the 21st Century.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Deborah McAllister<\/strong> (School of Education), Dr. Shannon McCarragher<\/strong> (Geography), and Dr. Henry Spratt<\/strong> (Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science) have requested $74,994 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for the project entitled, “Using Technology to Support Geography Content and Social Studies Practices.”<\/p>\n

Ms. Laurie Melnik<\/strong>, Ms. Michele Mummert<\/strong> (Southeast Center for Education), and Dr.<\/strong> David Ferrier<\/strong> (Psychology) have requested $99,614 from the Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood for the project entitled, “Preliminary Proposal – MOCS BLOCS.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Allen Pratt<\/strong> (School of Education) has requested $608,372 from Mississippi State University for the project entitled, “National Research and Development Center – Improving Rural Education in the Deep South, Appalachia, and the Montana Frontier.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Donald Reising<\/strong> and Dr. Thomas Loveless<\/strong> (Electrical Engineering) have requested $2,762,747 from the Department of Defense, Defense Advanced Research Project Agency for the project entitled, “Radio identification from unbiased deep learning models (RIFUDLM).”<\/p>\n

Ms. Carolyn Runyon<\/strong> (Library) has requested $96,890 from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission for the project entitled, “Opening Access: Building Finding Aids for the Chattanooga History Collections.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Mina Sartipi<\/strong> and Dr. Dalei Wu<\/strong> (Computer Science & Engineering) have requested $145,155 from the Sony USA Foundation Inc. for the project entitled, “Millimeter Wave Communications for Enhanced Vehicle Connectivity.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Gary Wilkerson<\/strong> (Health & Human Performance) has requested $99,546 from the International Olympic Committee Medical and Scientific Commission for the project entitled, “Neuromechanical Responsiveness Testing and Training.”<\/p>\n
